Bathroom Remodeling Tip No. 1
-
To make your bathroom remodeling experience as successful as possible, we recommend that you start your remodeling process with the piece that has the most impact: the bathroom vanity. Keep this in mind and then work your way through the others areas. Make sure your flooring pairs up well with your bathroom cabinet as they will be the focal point for anybody that walks into the room. The right stain of wood is also crucial as it will determine the color of your walls and how well they will make your bathroom vanity stand out.

Choose the right size of bathroom cabinet that complies with the plumbing code of your area. Please remember not to get too close to the toilet (if that is your case) as it will make the bathroom look crowded and uncomfortable. Align your vanity as best fits your bathroom design. You can either center it along the wall or push it against the corner.

Make sure you get a bathroom vanity that has the sufficient amount of storage for the particular bathroom you are remodeling. Check that the drawers and cabinets have enough space to store medium and large items (such as combs and hair dryer). For small items, consider getting a cabinet mirror instead of a flat mirror on top of your vanity.

A modern free-standing vanity can have a spectacular and dramatic look when combined with the right wall style. Most high-quality modern bathroom vanities are finished with the same high quality stain in all sides. In addition, most good quality bathroom cabinets are made out of solid hard wood and the hardware used is guaranteed for life.

Some of the solid wood types used to make bathroom vanities include: cherry, birch, ash, pine, and maple. Maple hard wood is a popular choice for bathroom vanities, some manufacturers use it primarily as a base for enamel or stains. It has little graining and tends to appear yellow.

Be aware that some stores will market their bathroom cabinets as made completely out of “solid wood;” however, a bathroom vanity base can be made up of a wide variety of products and veneers. Even in some of the best high-quality bathroom cabinets, solid wood may be used only for frames and doors. Vanities made out of composite and synthetic materials just can’t match the warmth, look, feel, and smell of “quality” that you get with solid wood bathroom vanities.

Lastly, remember that the most successful bathroom remodeling is the one that is designed around your personal needs. Shop around for bathroom vanities on the internet so that when you start your remodel you know what you want and you’ve seen the many different choices you have. Online retailers usually give you the opportunity to see all the selection they carry because they are not limited by floor space, which is usually the case when you drive to your local plumbing store.
