You’ve got your cabinets picked out, the wall color is set, and your choice of hardwood flooring couldn’t have been better. But wait, you’re missing one thing, the kitchen backsplash! Sometimes choosing a backsplash can be difficult and it can be extremely easy to get lost in the variety of options. It is the one part of your house that shows your personality the most. Whether you’re spunky, content, or relaxed there’s an option out there for you. Have the general contractor or designer for your Los Angeles remodeling or new-build project take you to their supplier to show you all the available options.

Budget

First things are first, your budget. When it comes down to it your budget is going to be a deciding factor when entering the backsplash market. It doesn’t make any sense looking at backsplashes that simply don’t agree with your wallet. A ceramic tile or glass backsplash can be suitable for almost any budget. With the wide variety of styles in either of those two surfaces, you’re almost certain to find an option to fit your kitchen and stay within your budget. With tile being a popular option in many Los Angeles homes it could even be your best bet. On the opposite end of the spectrum are stone backsplashes. Stone backsplashes, like marble or granite, are beautiful options given your budget allows them. But just like in any other part of your home, you’ll most likely want to stay away from styles that are only trendy for the time being. Once the trend is out so will your kitchen.

Durability and Maintenance

Durability and maintenance will be a key factor when selecting your kitchen backsplash. There are several types of kitchen backsplashes, options range from stainless steel to reclaimed wood. Some are easy to clean and upkeep, others not so much. How much you want to clean really depends on the material, style, or even color you’re looking for. Tile options like porcelain or ceramic will often be the most convenient when it comes down to low-maintenance kitchen backsplashes. Tile backsplashes are considered the easiest to clean. Another kitchen backsplash that isn’t as popular as tile, but requires just as low of maintenance, is stainless steel. There are many other benefits of stainless steel as well, it’s hygienic and won’t rust over time. Choosing a stone backsplash, which might be the most beautiful option for your kitchen, could be a different story. Stone backsplashes tend to have an uneven surface and can be very porous at times which makes it hard to clean the surface effectively.

Blending in With the Rest of the House

It’s typically easy to go into a backsplash supplier and say “oh that’s the one I want!” However, there are other elements of your home to take into consideration. You have white shaker cabinets, beautiful oak flooring, and lovely light grey toned wall that all needs to be blended together through the backsplash. Your backsplash and cabinets are the torso to your kitchen. Depending on what you’re trying to achieve keeping all the colors the same tone is important so you don’t offset the rest of the house. However, there are situations where a vibrant backsplash can act as an accent color to really make a kitchen pop!

Choosing What’s Right for You

If you have spunky attitude maybe uniformity within your house isn’t what you’re looking. However, a majority of modern and contemporary kitchens being designed today are really displaying more of timeless look that will last through decades. Ultimately you’re going to have a choose a backsplash style that’s right for you, whether it’s tile, wood, stone, or stainless steel. No matter how many designers tell you one backsplash will be more suitable for your house than another, you won’t be happy if you’re not comfortable being in the kitchen every day.
